Visit KC CEO Jason Fulvi is joining Arrivalist as Chief Sales Officer upon his resignation effective in early September. He joined the DMO in 2018 following 16 years at Visit Pittsburgh.

Visit KC’s VP & CFO Randall Landes will become interim CEO. Visit KC’s budget for the 2022 fiscal year, which began July 1, was reduced to $6.62 million, down 38% from the previous year.

Brian Wright is the new Director of Marketing at Mammoth Lakes Tourism. He joins from Santa Monica Travel & Tourism where he’s been Director of Global Business Development for the past 3+ years, prior to which his background included executive communications roles with Visit California.

Lauren Baker has departed her role as Director of Marketing at Houston First Corporation (Visit Houston) following 10 years with the DMO. She joins Amazon Web Services as Marketing Manager.

Lisa Konupka, Interactive Marketing Manager, has departed this role at Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau in Mississippi following 16 years’ service to join Advance Travel & Tourism, a digital marketing agency, as Account Executive.

Visit Corpus Christi welcomes the newest member of the team, Mallori Johnson, in the role of Destination Services Manager. She’s a graduate of West Texas A&M University with a background in public relations and event planning.

eTourism Summit Announces 2021 Emerging Tourism Stars Winners

Connect Travel, the owner and producer of eTourism Summit, announced the winners of the inaugural Emerging Tourism Stars for 2021. The winners will be recognized during the 22nd Annual eTourism Summit, the premier U.S. gathering of destination digital marketers in travel and their partner agencies, on Sept. 20–22, 2021, in Las Vegas.

Emerging Tourism Stars is a new annual program created in partnership with MMGY Global designed to recognize and celebrate astute individuals in destination marketing and attractions. In particular, the awards focus on those that are new to the eTourism community of digital travel and tourism professionals or have risen to the challenges of a new role within the community. 

“For 22 years, eTourism Summit has been about innovation and ‘See Tomorrow’ ideas. With support from MMGY Global, we’re excited to recognize a select group of Emerging Tourism Stars who are destined to be the destination marketing leaders of the future,” said Will Seccombe, president of Connect Travel. 

Winners will be directly connected with a travel and tourism thought leader as a mentor. They will each receive a scholarship to attend eTourism Summit, where they will be invited to a panel discussion moderated by MMGY Global. In addition, their professional story will be shared in The Travel Vertical and the eTourism Summit Magazine. One winner will have the opportunity to fill the Emerging Tourism Star seat on the eTourism Summit Advisory Board for 2022.

At Louisville Tourism from July 1, Cleo Battle is Chief Operating Officer, promoted from Executive Vice President, and Doug Bennett is promoted to Executive Vice President from Senior Vice President-Convention Development.

Deborah Ward has been promoted to Executive Director of Visit Omaha. Previously VP of Marketing and Communications, she has been leading the Omaha Convention & Visitors Bureau as interim director since July 2020.

Cathy Ritter, former director of the Colorado Tourism Office, has launched Better Destinations LLC, a consultancy focused on “bringing expert resources to destination management, especially relating to sustainable and regenerative tourism.”

Melissa Cherry has joined Miles Partnership as Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer and Senior Vice President, a new executive role. She joins from Destinations International where she was Chief Operating Officer since 2018 and had previously held the position of Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to joining DI in 206, Cherry had been an SVP at Choose Chicago.

Jen Carlisle is taking up a new role at Madden Media as a Destination Strategy Director. She joins from Visit Florida where she had been Regional Partnership Manager since 2018.

Alvaro Meléndez, Co-Founder and CEO at CRANT, has been selected among the top 100 Marketing & Advertising Influencers 2021 by MARsum USA, the global marketing & retail summit.

Josh Rawitch, formerly VP-Communications at the LA Dodgers and most recently Sr. VP-Content & Communications at the Arizona Diamondbacks, has been named President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Flavia Oliveira has joined Visit Santa Cruz County as Director of Sales Marketing. Her background includes a role as Sales Manager at Visit Oakland.

Athena Qualls has joined Visit Spokane as Senior Director of Sales based in Greater Chicago looking after the Midwest market.

In Hammond, Indiana, reports are that Speros Batistatos, president & CEO at South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority for the past 16 years, will not have his contract renewed the the end of 2021.

Visit Huntington Beach has promoted two managers from within: Brittany Tesmer, who joined in 2017, has been promoted to Digital Marketing Manager and Sophia Valdivia, who joined in 2015, has been promoted to Senior Manager of Business Development.
