In this article, “Travel Destinations Play Critical Role in Crisis Management & Recovery,” (required reading!) by Roger Dow, President and CEO at the U.S. Travel Association, he explains the important role that travel and tourism play in communities as they recover from natural disasters.
Following devastating hurricanes, wildfires, red tide, and a volcanic eruption, DMOs have been called upon to help sustain local economies by getting the right message out. Dow explores how destinations must be prepared to battle negative perceptions, using recent emergency examples from Discover Puerto Rico, Visit North Carolina, Discover South Carolina, Visit Florida, the Beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel, Visit California, Travel Oregon, and Hawaii Tourism Authority.
